rev. IV breaks off |
|
Given that the following oracle questions concern a single man ([u]-ni-in-ma UN-an, frg. 2, obv. I 45) as the potential reason for the god’s anger, it is likely that the plural determinative here is an error. It is likely that this individual, at first unnamed, is to be equated with Kurunta, who is the subject of the oracular questions from frag. 2+4 obv. II 12/obv. 1′ onwards.
This particular KIN symbol is only attested in this text. Cf. Frg. 2, obv. I, 50 & 55.
Note the highly unusual use of the particle =kan attached to a word which is not the initial word in the clause. This is likely an error, perhaps for =pat, which elsewhere is used to specify that the focus of the question is “this matter” (e.g. frg. 2, obv. I 24, see Neu E. 1993d, 142).
See note to colon 52.
This term is a hapax legomenon.
See note to colon 52.
The term šargašami- is securely attested only in this text (cf. also the following line and frg. 2/4 rev. IV 7′/6′). For a brief discussion, see CHD, S2, 266. For the etymology, see García Ramón J.L. 2019b, 138-139, who connects it to šarkant(i)- “one who seeks restitution” and šarni(n)k- “to make restitution.”
The meaning of this verb is unclear, as it is attested only here. It is perhaps to be connected to paštarnuwatta at frg. 2 obv. II 47 (see note above), based on which CHD, P1, 210 suggests it may have a similar meaning.
It is unclear to what KI.MIN refers. The suggestion here is based on the phraseological parallel with frg. 2, obv I 24-25 (cf. also 34-35), but this is uncertain given this section is much later and is preceded by a large blank space which perhaps suggests a new set of oracular inquries unrelated to those preceding.
See note to frg. 2, obv. II 43.
This expression, the meaning of which is unclear, is found only here.
