Kurzbeschreibung |
|
This text records a series of flesh, bird, and KIN oracular inquiries on a range of different topics. The first seem to concern whether or not the gods Ḫepat of Kummanni and Lelwani will heed the prayer of the queen. The second set of oracles pertain to the king’s journey to Gaittana and the offerings he should make there. This is followed by inquiries about the fact that the Sun-Goddess of Arinna has appeared in the dreams of the king, and what this means for the accession ceremony and the king’s journey to Nerik. The text concludes with a more fragmentary question concerning offerings made by the king to the god Pirwa.

Historical context |
|
Cornil P. – Lebrun R. 1972a understand the queen making a vow to Ḫepat of Kummanni and Lelwani to be Puduḫepa, and Houwink ten Cate Ph.H.J. 1996a considers the possible connection to various omens concerning the illness of the Babylonian wife of Tutḫaliya IV.
The location Gaittana is not otherwise known, nor is the campaign there of any king.
The references to the His Majesty sitting in kingship are related to the accession of Tutḫaliya IV. As Hout Th.P.J. van den 1998c, 79-84 shows, the oracles in this text show that the accession ritual of the king was meant to take place between his journeys to Kummanni and Nerik, and possibly allude to the anger of the Sun-Goddess of Arinna. Further oracles confirm her anger and result in the postponement of the ceremony, until the goddess can be appeased and the king purified.
